— THE FOUNDATION OF ORAL HEALTH

Comprehensive General
Dental Care

General dentistry encompasses the full range of preventive, diagnostic, and restorative services that maintain and restore oral health over a lifetime. It is the foundation on which all other dental care is built — without regular examination and preventive treatment, small problems become larger ones.

At Innova Dental, general dentistry is provided alongside more advanced clinical services — meaning patients with straightforward dental needs and patients requiring complex treatment are cared for in the same clinic, by the same clinician, with continuity of care throughout.

Dr. Onur Cavus brings over twenty years of clinical experience to general dental practice, with particular depth in restorative treatment and the management of complex or treatment-resistant cases. Patients who have had difficult dental histories or who have avoided dentistry for an extended period are welcome — a non-judgmental, patient-centred approach is central to how care is delivered at Innova Dental.

Who We See

  • Adults seeking a new general dentist in downtown Toronto

  • Patients who have not seen a dentist for an extended period

  • Patients with complex dental histories requiring experienced care

  • Adults requiring restorative work alongside preventive care

  • Patients who also require oral surgery, implants, or sedation

  • Anxious patients — IV sedation available for all procedures

All care in one clinic. Innova Dental combines general dentistry with oral surgery, dental implants, and IV sedation — meaning patients who need more than routine care do not need referral to another provider. Treatment from examination through to complex rehabilitation is managed in-house.

GENERAL DENTISTRY SERVICES

What We Provide

Comprehensive Examination

A thorough assessment of teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues. Includes digital radiographs and periodontal charting. Recommended annually for most patients, or at every new patient visit.

A full scope of general dental services for adults, delivered with the same clinical standard across routine and complex cases.

Professional Cleaning & Hygiene

Removal of plaque and calculus deposits that cannot be removed by brushing alone. Includes polishing and personalised oral hygiene instruction. Typically recommended every six months.

Dental X-Rays & Imaging

Digital radiographs to detect decay between teeth, bone loss, and pathology not visible on clinical examination. CBCT (cone beam CT) imaging available for surgical planning.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings

Composite resin restorations that repair decayed or damaged teeth while matching the natural tooth colour. A durable, aesthetically superior alternative to traditional amalgam fillings.

Root Canal Treatment

Treatment of infected or inflamed tooth pulp to eliminate pain and preserve the natural tooth. Performed under local anaesthesia — modern root canal treatment is significantly more comfortable than its reputation suggests.

Night Guards & Occlusal Splints

Custom-fabricated appliances to protect teeth from nocturnal grinding (bruxism) and manage temporomandibular joint (TMJ) symptoms. Reduces tooth wear, muscle tension, and morning jaw pain.

Dental Crowns

Full coverage restorations that protect and strengthen teeth that are cracked, heavily filled, or structurally compromised. Custom-fabricated to match the colour and shape of natural teeth.

Tooth Extractions

Removal of teeth that are non-restorable, severely infected, or require extraction prior to orthodontic or implant treatment. IV sedation available for anxious patients or complex cases.

Gum Disease Treatment

Assessment and management of gingivitis and periodontitis through scaling, root planing, and periodontal maintenance. Early treatment prevents progression to bone loss and tooth loss.

Dental Bridges

Fixed restorations that replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth. An alternative to implants where neighbouring teeth already require crowning or where implants are not indicated.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

Removable prostheses that replace multiple or all missing teeth. Conventional full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-retained dentures are available depending on clinical need.

Sports Mouthguards

Custom-fitted mouthguards for contact sport athletes. Provides significantly better protection and comfort than over-the-counter boil-and-bite alternatives.

— WHAT TO EXPECT

Your General Dentistry
Appointment

Whether you are attending for a routine check-up or returning after a long absence, your appointment at Innova Dental follows a consistent, unhurried process designed to give you a complete picture of your oral health and a clear plan for any treatment needed.

New patients receive a comprehensive examination at their first visit before any treatment begins. This ensures that all findings are documented and that treatment is planned in the correct sequence.

01 Medical & Dental History Review

A review of your medical history, current medications, allergies, and previous dental treatment. This informs both clinical decisions and anaesthesia choices for any treatment planned.

02 Clinical Examination

Systematic examination of all teeth, gums, bite relationship, and oral soft tissues including tongue, cheeks, and floor of mouth. An oral cancer screening is included as standard at every examination.

03 Radiographic Assessment

Digital X-rays taken as clinically indicated — typically bitewing radiographs to detect interproximal decay and bone levels, and periapical films for specific teeth of concern.

04 Periodontal Charting

Measurement of gum pocket depths around each tooth to assess periodontal health. Identifies early-stage gum disease before it causes visible symptoms or bone loss.

05 Treatment Planning & Discussion

All findings are explained clearly and a prioritised treatment plan is presented. You will understand what needs to be done, why, in what sequence, and what to expect at each appointment.

06 Professional Cleaning

Provided at the examination appointment where clinically appropriate, or scheduled as a dedicated hygiene appointment. Removes deposits that brushing and flossing cannot address.

— PREVENTION FIRST

Why Regular Dental
Visits Matter

The majority of dental problems are preventable or significantly less costly when caught early. Regular examinations allow problems to be identified and addressed before they require more extensive treatment.

  • Decay detected early requires a small filling — left untreated, it may require a crown or root canal

  • Gum disease identified early can be reversed — advanced periodontitis causes irreversible bone loss

  • Oral cancer has a significantly better prognosis when detected at an early stage

  • Regular cleaning removes calculus that contributes to both decay and gum disease

  • Early identification of grinding prevents costly tooth wear and restoration damage

Recommended Frequency

Most adults benefit from a dental examination and professional cleaning every six months. Patients with a history of gum disease, high decay risk, or complex restorations may be recommended more frequent hygiene visits — typically every three to four months.

Returning After a Long Absence

Patients who have not seen a dentist for several years are welcome at Innova Dental. The first appointment will focus on a comprehensive assessment to establish a clear picture of current oral health, without judgment about the gap in care. A staged treatment plan is developed based on clinical priority.

Dental Anxiety

Dental anxiety is common and significantly underreported. Innova Dental offers IV sedation for patients who experience significant anxiety — allowing treatment to be completed comfortably and efficiently. Oral sedation is also available as a lower-level option.

Questions

— FAQ

Have a question not answered here? Contact us directly — we're happy to help.

  • Most adults are recommended to have a dental examination and professional cleaning every six months. Patients with active gum disease, high decay risk, or ongoing restorative treatment may be seen more frequently. Your specific recall interval will be recommended based on your clinical assessment at Innova Dental.

  • Yes. Innova Dental is welcoming new patients ahead of our 2027 opening. You can book an appointment or register your interest now and we will confirm your appointment once we open.

  • Our billing approach will be confirmed ahead of opening. We will provide detailed treatment plans that can be submitted to your insurance provider for a pre-determination of benefits before treatment begins.

  • Please bring a list of any current medications and supplements, your insurance information if applicable, and any previous dental records or X-rays if you have them. If you have had significant dental work in the past, a brief summary of that history is helpful but not required — we will conduct a full assessment at your first visit.

  • Yes. Dental anxiety is common and Innova Dental is equipped to support anxious patients. IV sedation and oral sedation are both available, allowing procedures to be completed comfortably. Please let us know about your anxiety when booking so we can ensure adequate time and preparation for your appointment.

  • Existing amalgam fillings that are intact and functional do not require replacement purely for aesthetic reasons. Where an amalgam filling has failed, fractured, or is associated with a cracked tooth, replacement with a tooth-coloured composite or ceramic restoration is appropriate. We do not recommend replacing serviceable fillings unnecessarily.
